Shipwrecked Treasures
I began making jewellery when I was 6 years old. In fact my father gave my company it's name when I was 6. I received a gift of beads and string from a neighbour for Christmas and played with them constantly. Then came my birthday and I ran down to the local store and bought as many beads as I could, since they knew me very well they gave me a huge bag of beads for my birthday. Well I ran home and spread all the beads on the floor of my bedroom. All my clothes were also on the floor (of course). I guess I had been playing with all the beads and did not hear my father calling me to come up for dinner. The next thing I knew my door was opened and my father said "good God it looks like a ship got wrecked in here". Henceforth the name. He never lived to see it come true, hopefully he is watching. I began working in silver and gold in 1996 and have never looked back. I make many one of a kind creations. I have just won 1st place in many international contests in the silver catagory. I have just won another international contest for design. I have just made all the jewellery for the T.V. show So You Think You Can Dance. I think one of the greatest honours is whem Mary Murphy called me and asked me to design a piece for her (She is one of the judges for So You Think You Can Dance) Outside of the international wins I have won at home the Business Excellence Award, The outstanding visual artist award, I have been inducted into the Order of Abbotsford (the highest honour) and am up for the Citizen of the Year. I have also won the Yellow Pages make it real contest where they select 10 small business from across Canada and award them $5000.00 and their favourite charity gets $1500.00 mine was the Breast Cancer foundation. As of late I have been in the paper and on T.V. and radio shows telling my story. I have been told it is very inspirational. I have just found out today (June 16th) that I have won another 1st place with design and execution in England. Boy I am on a winning streak now. But what makes my heart pound? When I see the smile on a little girl's face when I give her a free gift of a necklace. That always melts my heart. The mission for my jewellery is that everyone should be able to afford a nice piece of jewellery at least once in their lives if they want to, so I make it happen.
